Is this breaker compatible with Square D or Siemens panels?
No. The Challenger C115 is strictly designed for use in Challenger Type C, Eaton Type BR, and Westinghouse Type BR load centers. It will not fit or operate safely in Square D or Siemens enclosures.
What is the modern replacement for the Challenger C115?
The Eaton BR115 is the direct, UL-classified replacement for the Challenger C115. Eaton manufactures the BR series to replace legacy Challenger C series breakers.
Can I use the C115 to replace a UBITBC115?
Yes, the Challenger C115 is a recognized cross-reference for the UBITBC115 and provides the exact same 15-amp, single-pole thermal-magnetic protection.
Does the C115 accept aluminum wiring?
Yes, the box lugs on this breaker accept both copper and aluminum wire ranging from 14 AWG to 4 AWG. When terminating aluminum conductors, an approved anti-oxidant compound must be applied to prevent corrosion.
How does this breaker connect to the panel bus?
The C115 features a plug-on mounting style. It snaps directly onto the bus bar of compatible load centers, requiring no bolt-on hardware for installation.
Is the Challenger C115 HACR rated?
Yes, this breaker is HACR rated. It is approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires this specific type of circuit protection.
Is this breaker SWD rated for switching lighting circuits?
Yes, the 15-amp C115 carries an SWD (Switching Duty) rating, meaning it is approved to be used as a regular switch for standard fluorescent lighting circuits.
