The CHT2020 is a tandem (or twin) breaker that provides two independent 20A circuits while occupying only a single 3/4-inch space in the load center.
Can the CHT2020 be installed in older non-CTL load centers?
Yes, this twin circuit breaker is designed to be fully compatible with both CTL and older non-CTL Cutler-Hammer or Eaton Type CH load centers.
Is this breaker the exact same as a Cutler-Hammer CHT2020?
Yes. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer, and the current CHT2020 is the exact factory replacement for older Cutler-Hammer branded twin breakers carrying the same catalog number.
Does the CHT2020 replace the CHNT2020?
Yes. After the National Electrical Code removed circuit-total-limiting requirements, Eaton updated the CHT2020 to fit all Type CH panels. It is now the direct replacement for the obsolete CHNT2020 non-CTL breaker.
Can the CHT2020 be used as a 2-pole breaker for 240V loads?
No. This is a twin breaker that connects to a single bus stab, providing two independent 120V circuits on the same phase. It cannot supply 240V to a single 2-pole load because there is no voltage potential between the two outputs.
Can the two circuits on the CHT2020 share a neutral in a multi-wire branch circuit?
No. Because both 20A outputs connect to the same bus stab, they operate on the same phase. Sharing a single neutral between these two circuits will overload the neutral wire. Multi-wire branch circuits require connection to opposing phases.
What is the recommended tightening torque for the load terminals on the CHT2020?
The box lug terminals on the CHT2020 require a tightening torque of 20 lb-in for the supported 14 to 8 AWG copper or aluminum wiring.
