Manufactured to support legacy residential systems, the Siemens GA150 is a 1-pole, 50A molded case circuit breaker. It is designed to restore power in older General Switch load centers. This plug-on breaker mounts into compatible panels without requiring special adapters. It serves as an exact match for original hardware and is interchangeable with the UBIGA150 substitute. It features a 10kAIC rating at 120/240V and proven thermal-magnetic trip technology.
Which panels are compatible with the GA150 breaker?
This breaker is specifically designed for legacy General Switch load centers. It is a standard 1-inch plug-on breaker intended to fit directly into the busbar of these older residential and commercial panels without adapters.
Are original General Switch GA series breakers still manufactured?
General Switch is a legacy brand, and original GA series breakers are no longer in active production. When original stock is unavailable, electricians must use UL-classified aftermarket replacements approved for General Switch panels.
What are the approved aftermarket replacements for a General Switch GA150?
If an original GA150 cannot be sourced, you can use UL-classified substitutes designed for General Switch load centers. Common approved alternatives include Eaton CL series breakers and Connecticut Electric UBI series breakers.
What wire gauge is required for the GA150 lug terminals?
The lug terminals on this breaker are rated to accept wire sizes from 8 AWG to 2 AWG. Always ensure you torque the connections to the manufacturer specifications printed on the breaker label during installation.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip mechanism operate on the GA150?
The breaker uses a fixed long-time and instantaneous (LI) trip function. The thermal component provides a delayed trip for sustained overloads, while the magnetic component trips instantly in the event of a severe short circuit.
Can I install any brand of 1-inch breaker in my General Switch panel?
No. Even if a standard 1-inch breaker physically fits, you must only use breakers explicitly listed on the panel label or those carrying a specific UL classification for General Switch panels, such as the Eaton CL line. Using unapproved breakers violates electrical code and compromises safety.
