Built for specific mid-range power requirements, this 25-amp single-pole breaker delivers consistent thermal-magnetic protection. It is frequently utilized for dedicated residential appliances needing precise 120/240V circuit defense. Installation is straightforward as it snaps into existing Murray load centers and compatible Siemens panels. This component provides an exact physical match for older infrastructure, serving as the predecessor to the Q125 model.
What is the direct Siemens replacement for the Murray MP125?
The direct replacement is the Siemens Q125. Siemens acquired the Murray brand and phased out the MP series, making the Siemens QP series the official UL-listed replacement for legacy Murray MP breakers.
Can I install a Murray MP breaker in a modern Siemens load center?
Yes. Because Siemens and Murray share the same plug-on design, Murray MP breakers are compatible with Siemens load centers that accept 1-inch QP breakers. Always verify the panel label to ensure MP or QP types are listed as acceptable.
Is there a UL-classified alternative to the MP125 from another manufacturer?
Yes. The Eaton CL125 is a 1-inch UL-classified replacement breaker that is tested and approved for use in panels that originally specified Murray MP or Siemens QP breakers.
What does the LI trip function indicate on this thermal-magnetic breaker?
The LI code stands for Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. The long-time thermal element protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous magnetic element trips the breaker immediately in the event of a short circuit.
Does the MP125 provide dual-function AFCI and GFCI protection?
No. This is a standard thermal-magnetic circuit breaker designed strictly for overcurrent and short-circuit protection. It does not contain Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) circuitry.
Can I use aluminum wiring with the box lugs on this breaker?
Yes. The terminals are rated for both copper and aluminum conductors, accepting 12 to 8 AWG aluminum or 14 to 8 AWG copper wire. When using aluminum wire, apply an approved oxide inhibitor and torque the connection to the specification printed on the breaker label.
Is this breaker suitable for commercial panels requiring a 22kAIC rating?
No. The MP125 has a maximum interrupting rating of 10kAIC at 120/240V AC. It is designed for standard residential or light commercial applications and cannot be used in systems where the available fault current exceeds 10,000 amps.
