Description

Built for modern residential safety, the Siemens Q220AFC is a 2-pole combination arc fault circuit breaker rated at 20 amps. It operates at 120/240VAC and detects series and parallel arcing faults to mitigate fire risks. Designed to fit into standard Siemens load centers, this plug-on unit features a pigtail neutral wire. It serves as the official replacement for the discontinued Q220AF. The breaker provides a 10kAIC capacity and includes an LED visual trip indicator to help diagnose faults.

Product FAQs

6 answers
Which load centers are compatible with the Q220AFC breaker?

The Q220AFC is designed for use in Siemens EQ, Ultimate, PL, and ES series load centers. It is also backward compatible with legacy ITE and Gould panels that accept Type QP breakers.

What is the difference between the Q220AFC and the Q220AFCN?

The Q220AFC features a pigtail neutral wire that must be manually connected to the panel's neutral bar. The Q220AFCN is the Plug-On Neutral (PON) version, which connects directly to the neutral bus without a pigtail, but requires a compatible PON load center.

Can the Q220AFC be used for a multi-wire branch circuit (MWBC)?

Yes, this 2-pole combination AFCI breaker is designed to support shared neutral applications (multi-wire branch circuits) where two 120V circuits share a common neutral wire.

How is the neutral connected on the Q220AFC?

This breaker features a pigtail neutral. The coiled white wire must be routed and secured to the panel's neutral bar, while the circuit's load neutral connects directly to the breaker's neutral lug.

What does Combination Arc Fault (CAFCI) mean on this breaker?

A Combination AFCI protects against both parallel arcing (line-to-neutral or line-to-ground) and series arcing (loose connections or damaged wires in series with the load), meeting NEC requirements for living spaces.

How often should the AFCI function be tested?

Siemens recommends testing the AFCI breaker monthly using the integrated test button to ensure the arc fault detection circuitry is functioning correctly.
