Product FAQs

8 answers
Can I use this Eaton breaker to replace an older Westinghouse HND312T33W?

Yes. Eaton acquired the Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse molded case circuit breaker lines. The Eaton HND312T33W is a direct, exact replacement for the older Westinghouse and Cutler-Hammer branded versions sharing the identical catalog number.

What does the 'H' stand for in the HND312T33W catalog number?

The 'H' indicates that this is a High Interrupting capacity circuit breaker. While a standard ND-Frame breaker provides 65kAIC at 240VAC and 50kAIC at 480VAC, this HND model provides elevated interrupting ratings of 100kAIC at 240VAC and 65kAIC at 480VAC.

What is the purpose of the 'LS' in the trip function code?

The LS designation means this electronic trip unit features Long-Time and Short-Time adjustable trip functions. Long-Time protects against sustained electrical overloads, while Short-Time provides protection against lower-level short circuits and allows for selective coordination with downstream breakers.

Does the HND312T33W require a rating plug to operate?

Yes. Because it uses the Digitrip 310 electronic trip unit, a separate rating plug (such as the 12NES1200T for 1200 Amps) must be installed to establish the maximum continuous current rating and make the breaker operational. The breaker will not function properly without it.

Is the HND312T33W breaker 100% rated or standard 80% rated?

This model is standard 80% rated. For continuous loads (three hours or more), the circuit breaker should not be loaded to more than 80% of its continuous current rating, which is 960 Amps. If you require a 100% rated breaker, you must use a different catalog number.

Can I use the HND312T33W for a reverse feed application?

Yes. All Eaton Cutler-Hammer Series C N-Frame circuit breakers are suitable for reverse feed use. This means you can safely supply line power to either the top or bottom terminals without affecting the breaker's protection capabilities.

Can I replace just the electronic trip unit on this N-Frame breaker if it fails?

No. In Eaton Series C N-Frame circuit breakers, the electronic trip unit is built into the frame as an integral part of the breaker assembly and is not field-replaceable. If the trip unit fails or you require different protection functions, the entire circuit breaker must be replaced.

What does the HACR rating mean for this N-Frame breaker?

Being HACR rated means the HND312T33W has been tested and approved for the safe protection of Heating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration equipment. It is capable of safely handling the specific inrush currents required by heavy commercial HVAC motor loads without nuisance tripping.
