Engineered for legacy commercial and industrial infrastructure, the HEF437050 molded case circuit breaker provides essential thermal-magnetic protection. It operates reliably in demanding 480VAC applications. This bolt-on unit installs into legacy FPE panelboards and switchboards without requiring aftermarket adapters. It serves as an exact cross-reference for the discontinued NEF437050 and UBIF050 models. Rated at 22kAIC at 480V, it features fixed thermal and magnetic trip units.
Which panelboards accept the HEF437050 circuit breaker?
This breaker is engineered for legacy Federal Pacific (FPE) panelboards and switchboards configured for H-frame components. It requires a direct bolt-on connection to the panel busbar.
Can the HEF437050 be used on systems operating below 480V?
Yes. While it has a maximum rating of 480VAC with a 22kAIC interrupting capacity, it is fully rated for 240VAC applications. When used at 240VAC, the interrupting capacity increases to 42kAIC.
What does the LI trip function indicate on this breaker?
The LI designation means the breaker provides Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function provides immediate tripping during severe short circuits. Both thermal and magnetic settings are fixed on this model.
What are the conductor requirements for the load side lugs?
The included lugs are dual rated for either copper or aluminum (Cu/Al) wire. They accommodate conductor sizes from 14 AWG up to 1/0 AWG. Ensure proper torque is applied during installation to maintain a secure connection.
Why is the HEF437050 considered a legacy component?
Federal Pacific Electric is no longer manufacturing new equipment. This breaker is sourced specifically to service and maintain existing FPE distribution systems, allowing facilities to replace a faulty breaker without upgrading the entire switchboard.
What busbar preparations are required before bolting on this breaker?
Before securing the bolt-on connections, inspect the panel busbar for any signs of pitting, corrosion, or thermal damage. The mating surfaces must be clean to ensure low contact resistance and prevent overheating at the connection points.
