Built to maintain legacy infrastructure, this 30-amp thermal-magnetic breaker provides essential overcurrent safety for commercial facilities. The three-pole configuration features a common trip mechanism and carries a standard HACR rating for HVAC equipment. As a verified substitute for the obsolete NB330, it mounts securely into classic Federal Pacific NBLP panelboards. Delivering a 10kAIC interrupting capacity at 240VAC, the unit accepts 14-2 AWG copper or aluminum wiring via standard lugs.
Can I install the NB232030 in a standard Federal Pacific residential load center?
No. The NB232030 features a bolt-on connection designed specifically for commercial Federal Pacific NBLP panelboards. It will not fit in residential Stab-Lok load centers, which require plug-on connections.
Is the NB232030 a suitable replacement for the obsolete NB330?
Yes, the NB232030 serves as a direct substitute for the obsolete Federal Pacific NB330. Both are 30-amp, 3-pole, bolt-on breakers with identical mounting and electrical specifications for NBLP panels.
How is the NB232030 secured inside the panelboard?
This breaker uses a bolt-on mounting style, meaning it fastens directly to the panel's busbar with screws. This provides a highly secure, vibration-resistant connection typical of commercial and industrial applications.
What type of wiring is compatible with the NB232030 lugs?
The standard terminal lugs accept both copper and aluminum wiring ranging from 14 AWG to 2 AWG. Always apply an appropriate oxide inhibitor when terminating aluminum conductors and torque to the manufacturer's specifications.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip mechanism in the NB232030 operate?
The fixed thermal-magnetic mechanism provides dual protection: the thermal component (Long-Time) responds to sustained overloads by heating and tripping the breaker, while the magnetic component (Instantaneous) reacts immediately to high-current short circuits.
Are there safety concerns with using legacy Federal Pacific breakers?
While Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) residential Stab-Lok panels have well-documented safety concerns, the NB series consists of commercial bolt-on breakers. Because original FPE equipment is obsolete, it is critical to have aging panels inspected by a licensed electrician to ensure they still provide reliable overcurrent protection.

Hard to find breakers
Had a project at a school built in the 1960’s and thought we were up a creek when confronted with ancient FPE commercial panels. Luckily we found what we needed with Suoerbreakers.
