What panelboards are compatible with the 3VA5140-4EF31-0AA0?

This breaker is designed for use in Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards, as well as Siemens switchboards. When installing this breaker in legacy P1 or P2 panelboards, a specific mounting adapter kit is required to transition from the older ED frame to the modern 3VA5 frame.

Can I use this breaker to replace an older ED43B040?

Yes, the 3VA5 series is the modern replacement for legacy ED frame breakers. The 3VA5140-4EF31-0AA0 can replace a discontinued ED43B040, upgrading the 480V interrupt rating from 18kA to 25kA. You will need a 3VA mounting adapter kit to install it in older panels.

What type of trip unit is included with this breaker?

It features a TM240 ATAM (Adjustable Thermal, Adjustable Magnetic) trip unit. This allows you to fine-tune the thermal overload protection (Ir) between 32A and 40A, and the magnetic short-circuit protection (Ii) between 5 and 10 times the continuous current rating.

Is this breaker rated for use in DC circuits?

Yes, in addition to its AC ratings, this breaker is rated for 50kA at 500VDC, making it suitable for solar, battery storage, or industrial DC control applications.

Can this breaker be reverse fed?

Yes, this breaker is suitable for reverse feed applications. The thermal-magnetic trip unit operates effectively regardless of which terminals are used for line or load connections.

Does this breaker provide ground fault protection?

No, the TM240 trip unit provides only Long-Time and Instantaneous (LI) protection for overloads and short circuits. It does not include integrated ground fault (GFCI) or equipment ground fault (EGFPD) protection.

Will this breaker accept standard Siemens internal accessories?

Yes, the 3VA5 frame features modular internal pockets that accept standardized accessories like shunt trips, auxiliary switches, and undervoltage releases. These accessories are uniform across the 3VA UL lineup, simplifying integration.

What is the maximum voltage this breaker can handle?

The 3VA5140-4EF31-0AA0 is rated for a maximum of 600Y/347V AC and 500V DC. It is not suitable for full 600V Delta systems, as it carries a slash rating for 600V applications.
