Designed for heavy-duty applications, the Siemens HB3B040 is a 40A molded case circuit breaker that safeguards industrial electrical systems. It utilizes a trip-free mechanism to prevent the contacts from being held closed during a fault. This unit installs into Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards, utilizing a bolt-on design for maximum stability. Rated at 65kAIC at 240VAC, this HBQ-type breaker provides exceptional short-circuit defense and includes standard load side lugs.

Product FAQs
7 answers
Which panelboards are compatible with the Siemens HB3B040?
This bolt-on circuit breaker is designed specifically for use in Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards. It is not compatible with standard residential plug-on load centers.
What is the difference between the Siemens HB3B040 and the BQ3B040?
Both breakers share the same physical dimensions, BQ frame type, and bolt-on mounting. The HB3B040 is the high-interrupting version with a 65kAIC rating at 240VAC, while the standard BQ3B040 is rated for 10kAIC. The HB3B040 can be used as a direct upgrade where higher fault current protection is required.
What wire sizes are accepted by the terminals on the HB3B040?
The factory-installed load side lugs accept 14 to 6 AWG copper wire or 12 to 6 AWG aluminum wire.
What does the 65kAIC rating mean for this 40A breaker?
The 65kAIC rating indicates the maximum fault current this breaker can safely interrupt at 240VAC without sustaining damage. This high interrupting capacity makes it suitable for commercial or industrial systems with higher available fault currents.
Can the HB3B040 be mounted on a standard DIN rail?
No. This is a bolt-on molded case circuit breaker designed to bolt directly to the busbars of compatible Siemens commercial panelboards. It does not support DIN rail mounting.
Are the trip settings adjustable on the HB3B040?
No. This breaker features a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip unit, meaning the long-time and instantaneous trip thresholds cannot be adjusted in the field.
Does this breaker provide GFCI or AFCI protection?
No. The HB3B040 features a standard thermal magnetic trip unit for overload and short-circuit protection. It does not include ground fault or arc fault detection capabilities.
