Engineered for commercial and industrial applications, this 80A Sentron series breaker delivers robust thermal-magnetic protection. It mounts into Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards, as well as standard motor control centers. Featuring a 25kAIC rating at 480VAC and reverse feed capability, this unit is highly versatile. Note that this legacy GB/GG frame model has been replaced by the 3VA5180-4EC31-0AA0, making it ideal for maintaining existing switchgear without full system upgrades.
What is the modern replacement for the Siemens NGG3B080L?
The NGG3B080L is a legacy GB/GG frame breaker that has been replaced by the newer Siemens 3VA5180-4EC31-0AA0 molded case circuit breaker. The 3VA series is the direct upgrade for maintaining existing switchgear without a full system overhaul.
What is the difference between the Siemens NGG and NGB circuit breakers?
The NGG frame, like the NGG3B080L, is designed for unit mounting (such as DIN rail or base mounting) and carries global markings. The NGB frame shares the same internal design but is specifically configured with a line end for panelboard mounting applications.
Can the NGG3B080L be mounted on a DIN rail?
Yes, the Siemens NGG frame features an integral DIN rail mounting design. It can be snapped directly onto a standard 35mm DIN rail or base-mounted using screws, without requiring any additional mounting adapters.
Is the Siemens NGG3B080L suitable for reverse feeding?
Yes, this breaker can be reverse fed. Because it features a non-interchangeable, fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit, it meets UL 489 requirements for reverse feeding applications.
Can this 3-pole breaker be used in direct current (DC) applications?
Yes, the NGG3B080L is rated for use on DC systems. It provides an interrupting rating of 14kAIC at 125/250VDC. When used on 250VDC systems, it is typically wired using two poles, with one pole on each leg of the supply circuit.
Does this breaker have an overcenter toggle mechanism?
Yes, the NGG series utilizes an overcenter toggle and trip-free mechanism. If a short circuit or overload occurs, the contacts are forced apart and the breaker cannot be held closed manually by the handle.
Can field-installable accessories be added to the NGG3B080L?
Yes, the NGG frame supports UL-listed field-installable accessories, including shunt trips, auxiliary switches, and alarm switches. These add-on modules can be attached to the left side of the circuit breaker.
