Designed for heavy-duty commercial environments, this 150-amp three-pole breaker offers reliable thermal-magnetic (LI) protection with an adjustable magnetic trip. The unit serves as an exact drop-in upgrade for discontinued KA36150 models, maintaining compatibility with existing Square D I-Line panelboards. It delivers a 25kA interrupting rating at 240VAC and includes current-limiting technology alongside a visual trip indicator to streamline facility maintenance.
The JDA36150 is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards [1.3.3]. It cannot be installed in standard NQ or NF series panels, and its plug-on jaw design is incompatible with standard unit-mount or bolt-on applications.
How are the line and load connections configured on the JDA36150?
This breaker utilizes the I-Line plug-on system for the line side, engaging directly onto the panel bus via compression jaws. The load side is equipped with standard mechanical lugs for terminating field wiring.
Is the trip unit on the JDA36150 adjustable?
Yes. While the long-time thermal protection is fixed, the instantaneous magnetic trip setting is adjustable. This provides electricians the flexibility to tune the short-circuit response and prevent nuisance tripping from high inrush loads like motors or transformers.
Can I use the JDA36150 to replace an older KA36150 breaker?
Yes, the JDA36150 is the direct, modern replacement for the discontinued Square D KA36150. It shares the same physical dimensions and I-Line mounting interface, allowing it to drop directly into existing legacy panelboards without modification.
What is the difference between the JDA36150 and the JDL36150?
The primary difference is the mounting type. The JDA36150 is an I-Line breaker designed to plug directly into a panelboard bus on the line side. The JDL36150 is a unit-mount breaker equipped with mechanical lugs on both the line and load sides for traditional wired installations.
Does this breaker feature current-limiting capabilities?
Yes, the PowerPacT J-Frame series utilizes a dual-break rotating contact mechanism that reduces peak current during a short-circuit fault. This current-limiting design minimizes potential electrical and mechanical damage to downstream equipment.
Does the I-Line connection allow for custom phase arrangements?
Yes, the I-Line plug-on design allows for flexible phase arrangement during installation. Depending on how the breaker is positioned on the panelboard bus stack, installers can easily balance the electrical load across the phases without altering any bolted connections.
