Built for commercial and industrial applications, the Square D KH36225 is a 3-pole, 225A molded case circuit breaker. It provides robust overcurrent protection for demanding electrical systems. This legacy K-Frame breaker features a plug-on design that installs into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. For modern upgrades, it is replaced by the PowerPact JJA36225. Featuring a thermal-magnetic trip unit, it delivers a 35kAIC interrupt rating at 480VAC.

Product FAQs
6 answers
Can the KH36225 be installed in standard QO or NF electrical panels?
No. The KH36225 utilizes a specialized I-Line plug-in connection and is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It is not compatible with standard residential QO, Homeline, or NF series panels.
What wire sizes and materials are supported by the lugs on the KH36225?
The standard factory lugs on this breaker accommodate wire sizes from 4 AWG up to 350 kcmil. They are rated for use with both aluminum and copper (Al/Cu) conductors.
Are the thermal and magnetic trip thresholds adjustable on the KH36225?
The KH36225 features a fixed thermal element (permanently set at 225 amps for long-time overload protection) and an adjustable magnetic trip mechanism. You can adjust the instantaneous magnetic trip threshold to suit your specific short-circuit protection requirements.
Can the Square D KH36225 be utilized in DC voltage applications?
Yes, this circuit breaker is rated for DC applications up to 250VDC, where it provides a maximum interrupting rating of 10kAIC.
Is the Square D KH36225 still actively manufactured?
The Square D KH-frame is a legacy product line that is now obsolete and no longer in active production. When retrofitting or replacing, modern Square D PowerPact J-Frame I-Line breakers (such as the JGA36225) are the standard direct replacements, though the exact modern model will depend on your required short-circuit fault ratings and system voltage.
What does the LI trip function code signify on the KH36225?
The LI designation indicates that the thermal-magnetic trip unit includes both Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection functions. The Long-Time function protects the circuit against sustained overloads, while the Instantaneous function trips the breaker immediately without intentional delay during severe short-circuit faults.
