The factory standard mechanical lug kit is the AL400LA. Each terminal accommodates either one 1 AWG to 600 kcmil wire or two 1 AWG to 250 kcmil wires in aluminum or copper.
What are the adjustable magnetic trip parameters on this 350A breaker?
The LAL36350 features a thermal-magnetic trip unit with an adjustable instantaneous magnetic trip. The low setting, or magnetic hold current, is 1750A, and the high setting, or magnetic tripping current, is 3500A.
Is the legacy LAL36350 obsolete, and what series replaces it?
Yes, the legacy L-Frame series has been superseded by the Square D PowerPact L-Frame molded case circuit breakers. When retrofitting a unit-mount LAL36350, engineers typically specify a PowerPact LGL or LJL equivalent, though the required available fault current (AIC) must be verified for the specific application.
Can the LAL36350 be reverse-fed for a back-fed main breaker application?
Yes. Standard thermal-magnetic LAL breakers do not feature directional Line and Load markings. This allows them to be reverse-fed or back-fed safely in panel or switchboard applications following standard NEC guidelines.
Can I install the LAL36350 in a Square D I-Line panelboard?
No. The LAL36350 is a unit-mount circuit breaker equipped with mechanical lugs on both the line and load ends. For an I-Line panelboard or switchboard, you must use the LA36350, which features a plug-on line connection designed specifically for the I-Line bus system.
