Product FAQs
8 answers
What panelboards are compatible with the LC36400 circuit breaker?
This L-frame breaker is designed specifically for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It uses an I-Line style plug-in connection for secure line-side mounting directly to the busbar.
What size wire does the LC36400 accept?
The included mechanical lugs accommodate two wires per phase, accepting 4/0 AWG to 500 kcmil aluminum or copper conductors.
Are the trip settings on this 400-amp breaker adjustable?
Yes. While the thermal long-time trip is fixed at 400 amps, the magnetic instantaneous trip features an adjustable dial on the front of the breaker to coordinate short-circuit pickup levels.
Can you reverse feed this I-Line circuit breaker?
No. Circuit breakers with I-Line style plug-in connections are directional by design. The plug-in jaws must connect to the line-side bus, and the load wires must connect to the bottom lugs.
What is the modern replacement for the legacy LC36400 circuit breaker?
Square D recommends the PowerPact L-frame series, such as the LJA36400U31X, as the current replacement for the legacy LC36400. It offers updated features while maintaining I-Line panelboard compatibility.
Is the LC36400 suitable for DC applications?
Yes. It carries a 10kA interrupting rating at 250VDC, making it suitable for certain battery, transit, or industrial DC power distribution systems.
Does this breaker feature electronic trip units?
No, the LC36400 utilizes a traditional thermal-magnetic trip unit. If your application requires advanced features like ground fault protection, communications, or electronic trip functions, you must upgrade to the newer PowerPact L-frame series.
Does the LC36400 require additional hardware to mount in a panel?
No additional mounting hardware is required. For I-Line breakers, the line-side plug-in jaws and the retaining bracket required to secure it to the I-Line backpan are built directly into the breaker frame.
