Providing robust main breaker capabilities, this 175A plug-on MCCB is tailored for three-phase residential and commercial applications. It fits securely into legacy Zinsco load centers, offering a straightforward maintenance solution for aging electrical infrastructure. This thermal-magnetic breaker eliminates the requirement for costly panel replacements by matching original factory dimensions. Rated for 10kAIC at 240VAC, it includes load side lugs and ensures reliable overcurrent protection.
What panels are compatible with the QFL23175 circuit breaker?
This breaker is designed exclusively for use in legacy Zinsco and Sylvania 3-phase load centers that accept QFL-frame plug-in breakers. It cannot be installed in modern panels from other manufacturers.
Is the Zinsco QFL23175 interchangeable with Sylvania models?
Yes. Because Zinsco was acquired by GTE Sylvania, this exact breaker was manufactured under the Zinsco, Sylvania, and GTE Sylvania brand names. A Sylvania QFL23175 is the exact same form, fit, and function as the Zinsco version.
What type of wire can I use with the QFL23175 terminal lugs?
The factory lugs are rated for both Aluminum (Al) and Copper (Cu) conductors. They accept a wide wire range from 4 AWG up to 300 kcmil, allowing flexibility for 175-amp service feeds or heavy branch circuits.
Does the QFL23175 offer adjustable trip settings?
No, this breaker features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. The long-time (overload) and instantaneous (short-circuit) trip functions are factory-set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
What does the LI trip function code mean on this breaker?
The LI designation indicates that the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function trips immediately during a short circuit.
Does the QFL23175 require bolt-on hardware for installation?
No, it utilizes a plug-in connection type. It pushes directly onto the busbar of a compatible Zinsco or Sylvania load center, meaning no mounting bolts are required to secure the electrical connection.
Can the 3-pole QFL23175 be used in a standard residential panel?
Typically, no. Standard residential panels are single-phase and only accept 1-pole or 2-pole breakers. The 3-pole QFL23175 requires a 3-phase Zinsco or Sylvania panel, which is most commonly found in commercial or light industrial applications.
