Which panelboards are compatible with the EHB34040-1042?
This legacy E-Frame breaker is designed exclusively for Square D NEHB panelboards. It will not fit in newer NF series panelboards or standard NQO/NQOD enclosures.
What is the modern replacement for the EHB34040-1042?
The EHB series is obsolete. The modern equivalent is the EDB34040 equipped with a shunt trip accessory. However, EDB breakers require an NF series panelboard and cannot be installed in older NEHB enclosures.
Can the EHB34040-1042 be used on a 480V ungrounded delta system?
No. This breaker has a 480Y/277V slash rating. It is only suitable for solidly grounded wye systems where the voltage to ground does not exceed 277V. It cannot be used on 480V ungrounded or corner-grounded delta systems.
How does the shunt trip function operate on this breaker?
The factory-installed shunt trip requires an external 12-24V AC or DC power source. When the coil receives a voltage signal from a remote switch or emergency stop relay, it mechanically trips the breaker to open the circuit.

LI stands for Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. The Long-Time element provides thermal overload protection, while the Instantaneous element provides magnetic short-circuit protection. Both settings are fixed and cannot be adjusted in the field.
