Supplying 400 amps of continuous current, this legacy molded case circuit breaker incorporates sophisticated electronic trip capabilities. The integrated LS functions allow engineers to fine-tune protection settings for complex industrial motor control centers. Designed to mount into established Eaton and Westinghouse enclosures, it restores system functionality without the expense of complete panel upgrades.
What type of trip unit is installed in the LC3400F?
This breaker utilizes a Seltronic solid-state electronic trip unit. It features fixed Long-Time and Short-Time (LS) trip functions for reliable overcurrent and fault protection in industrial power systems.
Which panels and switchboards accept the LC3400F breaker?
This unit is designed to mount into legacy Westinghouse, Cutler-Hammer, and Eaton switchboards, panelboards, and motor control centers that are configured for LC or MC frame circuit breakers.
Are terminal lugs included with the LC3400F?
While the breaker is configured for lug connections, the lugs themselves are typically sold separately. You will need to verify your wire size and conductor material to select the correct LC frame lug kit, such as the T400LA copper lug kit.
Is the Westinghouse LC3400F the same as the Eaton LC3400F?
Yes. Eaton acquired the Westinghouse electrical distribution line, so this exact breaker can be found with Westinghouse, Cutler-Hammer, or Eaton branding. They are physically and electrically identical.
Can the LC3400F be installed on systems with lower voltages than its 600V maximum?
Yes, this breaker is fully compatible with 240VAC and 480VAC systems. When installed on lower voltage systems, the interrupting capacity increases, providing up to 42kAIC at 240VAC compared to its 22kAIC rating at 600VAC.
What protection does the LS trip function provide?
The LS designation indicates Long-Time and Short-Time protection. Long-Time guards against sustained overloads, while Short-Time provides a slight delay during moderate faults. This delay allows downstream breakers closer to the fault to trip first, preventing unnecessary system-wide outages.
How is the LC3400F secured inside an electrical enclosure?
This is a unit-mount, bolt-on circuit breaker. It must be bolted directly to the panel bus or mounting pan, which provides a secure, vibration-resistant connection for heavy-duty industrial applications.
What is the difference between the LC3400F and the HLC3400F?
The HLC3400F is the high-interrupting variant of this breaker frame. While the standard LC3400F is rated for 30kAIC at 480VAC, the HLC3400F provides an upgraded 35kAIC at 480VAC. Both models share the exact same physical dimensions and mounting hardware.
