Product FAQs

9 answers
What enclosures and panelboards can accommodate the XT5NU340ABFN000XXX?

This XT5 breaker is designed for installation within ABB ReliaGear neXT panelboards, ReliaGear SB switchboards, and ABB SACE Tmax XT enclosures.

What wire sizes and materials are supported by the terminal lugs on this XT5 breaker?

The factory installed lugs accommodate two conductors per phase, accepting either copper or aluminum wire sizes ranging from 2/0 AWG up to 500 kcmil.

How does the thermal magnetic trip unit operate on this 400A breaker?

This breaker uses an adjustable thermal magnetic trip unit with Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) functions. Both the thermal overload and instantaneous short circuit thresholds can be adjusted in the field to coordinate with downstream loads.

What does the N designation mean in the XT5NU340ABFN000XXX part number?

The N indicates the normal interrupting capacity tier for the XT5 frame. This provides a maximum interrupting rating of 35kA at 480VAC and 65kA at 240VAC.

Can the XT5NU340ABFN000XXX be used in DC applications?

Yes. Because it features a thermal magnetic trip unit, this breaker is rated for direct current applications up to 600VDC, with a maximum interrupting capacity of 16kA.

Is this breaker suitable for reverse feeding?

Yes, ABB SACE Tmax XT molded case circuit breakers with thermal magnetic trip units can be reverse fed. Power can be supplied from the bottom terminals, as they do not have a marked line and load distinction. Always verify local electrical codes before installation.

Are there auxiliary contacts or shunt trips available for this XT5 breaker?

Yes, the Tmax XT5 family supports a wide range of snap-in accessories. Auxiliary contacts, shunt trips, and undervoltage releases can be easily installed in the field to modify the breaker for specific control applications.

What is the recommended operating temperature range for this Tmax XT5 breaker?

The breaker is designed to operate in ambient air temperatures between -25 degrees Celsius and +70 degrees Celsius. The reference temperature for the thermal trip unit is +40 degrees Celsius, and derating tables should be consulted for operation outside of this baseline.

Can the XT5NU340ABFN000XXX be used to replace legacy General Electric Spectra breakers?

Yes. The ABB Tmax XT5 series serves as the direct upgrade and replacement path for legacy GE Spectra G-frame breakers, including the 400A SGHA, SGLA, and SGPA models, when using the appropriate retrofit kits or panelboard hardware.
