Built for residential safety, the Siemens MP115DF is a 15A dual function breaker providing combination arc-fault and 5mA ground-fault protection. It helps contractors meet NEC requirements for dual-protection areas like kitchens and laundry rooms. This 1-pole device mounts into Murray and Siemens plug-on load centers. As part of the legacy Murray MP series, it can be substituted with the newer Q115DF model. Rated at 10 kAIC, it features a self-test lockout and an LED trip indicator.
Is the MP115DF compatible with older Murray load centers?
Yes. Siemens manufactures the MP115DF as a direct, UL listed replacement for legacy Murray MP-T load centers. It is also compatible with Siemens panels that are labeled to accept MP frame breakers.
What type of protection does the MP115DF dual function breaker provide?
This breaker combines Combination Type Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) and Class A 5mA Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection. It is designed to meet NEC requirements for circuits that require both arc fault and ground fault protection, such as those in kitchens or laundry rooms.
Does the MP115DF use a pigtail or plug-on neutral connection?
The MP115DF features a pigtail neutral wire. During installation, this coiled white wire must be routed and terminated directly to the neutral bus bar in the load center to power the internal AFCI and GFCI circuitry.
Can I substitute a Siemens Q115DF for the Murray MP115DF?
While Siemens manufactures both lines, the MP115DF is specifically UL listed for panels requiring the Murray MP-T frame. The Q115DF is the QP frame equivalent for Siemens panels. You should install the specific frame type listed on your load center's wiring diagram to maintain UL compliance.
What do the LIG trip functions indicate on this breaker?
The LIG designation indicates the breaker's trip unit includes Long-Time delay for thermal overloads, Instantaneous trip for short circuits, and Ground-Fault sensing. This thermal-magnetic profile is standard for dual function breakers protecting branch circuits.
Does the MP115DF feature trip diagnostics?
Yes. This dual function breaker includes an LED trip indicator. If the breaker trips, the LED lights help electricians pinpoint whether the fault was caused by an arc fault, a ground fault, or a standard overcurrent event, simplifying the troubleshooting process.
Does the MP115DF include a self-test feature?
Yes. The breaker features an automatic self-test and lockout mechanism to ensure the AFCI and GFCI components are functioning correctly. If the internal diagnostics detect a compromised device, the breaker will trip and lock out to prevent resetting without ground fault or arc fault protection.
