Providing both local overcurrent protection and remote disconnect functionality, the Eaton CH315ST includes a built-in shunt trip accessory. This 15A, three-pole plug-on breaker is designed specifically for Type CH load centers and delivers a 10 kAIC interrupting rating at 240VAC. The thermal-magnetic trip unit ensures reliable defense against short circuits and overloads, while the common trip mechanism disconnects all phases simultaneously. It is HACR rated and accepts 14-6 AWG wiring.
What does the "ST" suffix indicate on the CH315ST breaker?
The "ST" suffix designates that this breaker includes a factory-installed shunt trip. This feature allows the breaker to be tripped remotely by applying a voltage signal to the shunt trip coil, making it suitable for emergency shutdown or automated control systems.
How many panel spaces does the CH315ST require?
This breaker requires a total of four 3/4-inch spaces in the load center. The standard three-pole breaker occupies three spaces, and the integrated shunt trip accessory requires one additional pole space.
Is the CH315ST compatible with Eaton BR series load centers?
No, this breaker is exclusively designed for Eaton or Cutler-Hammer Type CH load centers. Type CH breakers have a 3/4-inch width per pole, whereas BR series breakers require a 1-inch space per pole and use a different busbar connection.
What does the "LI" trip function code mean for this breaker?
The "LI" designation indicates that the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. The long-time function offers a delayed trip for standard overloads, while the instantaneous function immediately clears severe short-circuit faults.
Does this breaker provide common trip functionality?
Yes, the CH315ST features an internal common trip mechanism. In the event of an overload or short circuit on any single phase, all three poles will trip simultaneously to disconnect power, preventing single-phasing of connected three-phase equipment.
Is the CH315ST suitable for HVAC applications?
Yes, this breaker is HACR rated, meaning it is approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires a 15A, three-phase circuit.
Does the CH315ST offer ground fault or arc fault protection?
No, this is a standard thermal-magnetic circuit breaker. It does not include Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) capabilities.

Got a great refurbished breaker - saved a $6500 Service Replacement
When our main breaker frizzed out, the option we were presented with was replacing the entire panel and service due to the type and part - no longer produced for replacement parts. It would be a $6500 replacement.
We'll likely have to do it at some point but, for now, the replacement breaker we were able to source from Superbreakers (with a $25 warranty) was $5900 less expensive. installation ran a few hundred dollars and the tech said the part looked to be in excellent condition and was prepped for install as he would have hoped.
