The ST suffix means this breaker is equipped with a factory-installed 120V shunt trip. This feature allows the breaker to be opened remotely by applying a 120V control signal to the shunt trip coil, which is commonly used for emergency stops or automated safety disconnects.
How many panel spaces does the CH3090ST require in a loadcenter?
This breaker requires four 3/4-inch spaces in the panel. The three main poles occupy three spaces, and the integrated shunt trip mechanism requires one additional dedicated pole space alongside them.
Will the CH3090ST fit in an Eaton BR series panel?
No. This is a Type CH plug-on breaker designed exclusively for Eaton and legacy Cutler-Hammer CH series loadcenters. It will not physically fit or safely connect to the busbar in a BR series panel.
How does the breaker respond if only one phase experiences a fault?

When our main breaker frizzed out, the option we were presented with was replacing the entire panel and service due to the type and part - no longer produced for replacement parts. It would be a $6500 replacement.
We'll likely have to do it at some point but, for now, the replacement breaker we were able to source from Superbreakers (with a $25 warranty) was $5900 less expensive. installation ran a few hundred dollars and the tech said the part looked to be in excellent condition and was prepped for install as he would have hoped.
