Description

The CH315SW is a switched neutral circuit breaker designed to simultaneously disconnect all ungrounded conductors and the grounded neutral conductor. It is commonly used to meet NEC requirements for fuel dispensing equipment, such as gas pumps, which require the neutral to be opened along with the power lines.
How much panel space does the Eaton CH315SW require?
This breaker requires three standard 3/4-inch spaces in an Eaton CH load center. Two poles connect to the ungrounded hot lines, and the third pole is used to switch the neutral conductor.
Can the CH315SW be used as a standard 3-phase circuit breaker?
No. Although it occupies three spaces, the CH315SW is a switching neutral breaker designed for 120/240V single-phase applications where two hot lines and one neutral must be disconnected simultaneously. It is not rated for standard 3-phase power distribution.
Does the CH315SW feature an independent or common trip mechanism?
The CH315SW features an internal common trip mechanism. If an overload or short circuit occurs on any of the protected ungrounded poles, all poles, including the switched neutral, will trip simultaneously to safely isolate the circuit.
Does the CH315SW provide GFCI or AFCI protection?
No, the CH315SW is a standard thermal-magnetic breaker with a switched neutral feature. It does not include Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) functionality.
Can a shunt trip be added to the CH315SW in the field?
Eaton CH breakers do not accept field-installable shunt trip accessories. If remote tripping is required for emergency stop applications, you must order a factory-assembled model with an ST suffix (such as CH315SWST), which will require one additional space in the load center.

When our main breaker frizzed out, the option we were presented with was replacing the entire panel and service due to the type and part - no longer produced for replacement parts. It would be a $6500 replacement.
We'll likely have to do it at some point but, for now, the replacement breaker we were able to source from Superbreakers (with a $25 warranty) was $5900 less expensive. installation ran a few hundred dollars and the tech said the part looked to be in excellent condition and was prepped for install as he would have hoped.
