Product FAQs

8 answers
Is the Eaton CHND312T32W rated for 100 percent continuous operation?

Yes, the C prefix in the CHND frame designation indicates this breaker is 100 percent rated. It can carry its full 1200A continuous current rating when installed in a properly sized and ventilated enclosure. The 1200A version requires specific enclosure ventilation, conductor extensions, and terminal barriers, and 90 degree C wire must be applied at the 75 degree C ampacity.

Does the CHND312T32W require a rating plug to operate?

Yes, this breaker features a Digitrip 310 electronic trip unit which requires an interchangeable N-frame rating plug to set the continuous current rating. The breaker will not function properly without the correct rating plug installed.

What type of trip unit is installed in the CHND312T32W?

It is equipped with a Digitrip RMS 310 solid-state electronic trip unit. The T32 designation indicates it provides LSI (Long-Time, Short-Time, and Instantaneous) protection functions, allowing for precise coordination in your electrical system.

What settings are adjustable on the CHND312T32W trip unit?

The Digitrip 310 LSI trip unit allows you to adjust the Long Delay pickup via the rating plug. It also features an adjustable Short Delay pickup with fixed or adjustable delay time, and an adjustable Instantaneous pickup configured by setting the short delay time to instantaneous.

Can the CHND312T32W be used in DC power systems?

No, the Digitrip 310 electronic trip unit installed in this breaker relies on true RMS current sensing and is designed for AC applications only.

How is the CHND312T32W mounted in a panelboard or switchboard?

This is a bolt-on, panel-mount N-frame circuit breaker designed for use in Eaton Series C panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers.

Does the CHND312T32W provide ground fault protection?

No, the LSI trip unit provides Long-Time, Short-Time, and Instantaneous protection. It does not include integral ground fault protection. If ground fault protection is required, a different trip unit configuration, such as LSIG, would be necessary.

What is the ambient operating temperature range for the CHND312T32W?

The Digitrip 310 trip unit is calibrated to be insensitive to ambient temperatures between -20 degrees C and +55 degrees C. However, for ambient conditions above 40 degrees C, derating of the circuit breaker should be considered to avoid exceeding safe terminal temperatures. The trip unit also contains thermal protective circuitry that initiates a trip if the internal printed circuit board reaches approximately 90 degrees C.
