The HFJ424150 is a 2-pole, 150A molded case circuit breaker from Federal Pacific's legacy H-Frame series. It provides reliable thermal-magnetic protection for commercial power distribution. Designed to install into Federal Pacific panelboards, this bolt-on unit ensures a seamless fit. It serves as the exact replacement for the obsolete NFJ424150. Rated for 65kAIC at 240V and 22kAIC at 480V, it safely clears severe faults. The breaker includes load-side lugs and is HACR rated.
Can I install the HFJ424150 in a modern Square D or Eaton panel?
No. The HFJ424150 is a legacy H-Frame breaker specifically designed for older Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) panelboards and switchboards. It is not interchangeable with modern Square D, Eaton, or Siemens panels.
What type of mounting hardware is required for the HFJ424150?
As a bolt-on molded case circuit breaker, it requires specific FPE mounting hardware kits, such as the NFJ1K for twin branch configurations in CDP panels, to properly secure the breaker to the busbar.
Are there direct replacements available for the discontinued FPE HFJ424150?
Yes. While Federal Pacific Electric is no longer in business, exact drop-in replacements are available to maintain existing FPE panelboards and switchboards without requiring a complete system upgrade.
Does the HFJ424150 offer adjustable trip settings?
No. This breaker features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. Both the long-time and instantaneous protection functions are factory-set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
What wire sizes are compatible with the terminal lugs on the HFJ424150?
The standard lugs accept conductors ranging from 4 AWG up to 350 kcmil. Always verify the appropriate torque specifications when terminating the conductors to ensure a secure connection.
Is the HFJ424150 suitable for 480V three-phase systems?
The HFJ424150 is a 2-pole breaker, meaning it is designed for single-phase applications or across two phases of a three-phase system. It is rated for up to 480VAC, but it cannot protect all three legs of a three-phase circuit. For full three-phase protection, a 3-pole breaker is required.
Can the HFJ424150 be used in 240V applications?
Yes. While it has a maximum voltage rating of 480VAC, it is fully compatible with 240VAC systems. When used at 240VAC, the interrupting capacity increases to 65kAIC, compared to its 22kAIC rating at 480VAC.
