Operating at 15 amps, the Federal Pacific NEF425015 is a 2-pole molded case circuit breaker designed for commercial and industrial environments. It provides reliable thermal-magnetic protection for branch circuits across 240VAC, 480VAC, and 250VDC systems. This legacy component bolts into Federal Pacific panelboards, serving as an exact replacement for aging infrastructure. It can also be cross-referenced with the UBIF215N. The breaker features a 14kAIC rating at 480V and is HACR rated.
Which panelboards accept the Federal Pacific NEF425015?
This breaker is designed specifically to bolt into legacy Federal Pacific NEF series commercial panelboards. It is not compatible with residential Federal Pacific Stab-Lok load centers.
Is the Federal Pacific NEF425015 still in active production?
Federal Pacific Electric is no longer in business, making original NEF425015 breakers obsolete. However, exact replacements are still sourced by distributors to maintain existing N-Frame commercial panelboards without requiring a full system retrofit.
How should the lugs on the NEF425015 be torqued during installation?
Installers must use a calibrated torque tool to tighten the lugs to the manufacturer-specified value on the breaker label. If the original label is unreadable, National Electrical Code (NEC) 110.14(D) requires using the default torque values found in NEC Table 110.14(D)(1).
Can the NEF425015 be utilized in direct current applications?
Yes, in addition to its AC ratings, this breaker is rated for up to 250VDC with a 10kA interrupting capacity. Electricians must ensure the DC wiring configuration complies with standard practices for breaking DC arcs across multiple poles if required.
Does the NEF425015 share the safety issues associated with FPE Stab-Lok breakers?
No. The NEF425015 is a commercial-grade, bolt-on molded case circuit breaker. It utilizes a completely different internal mechanism and bus connection method than the residential Stab-Lok plug-on breakers, which are known for calibration and common-trip failures.
Can the NEF425015 be installed in modern panelboards from other manufacturers?
No. The NEF425015 features a proprietary bolt-on mounting configuration specific to legacy Federal Pacific N-Frame panelboards. It cannot be retrofitted into modern enclosures from brands like Square D, Eaton, or Siemens.
How does the trip unit on the NEF425015 operate?
It features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit with long-time and instantaneous (LI) functions. The thermal element provides an inverse-time response for standard overloads, while the magnetic element responds immediately to short-circuit faults.
What are the acceptable wire sizes for the NEF425015 terminals?
The factory lugs accommodate conductors ranging from 14 AWG to 2 AWG. Installers must verify that the selected conductor size and material align with the 15A rating and local electrical codes.

Great service & pricing
Superbreakers did a great job for us. We called and asked if the breakers were actually in their possession. Withing 30 minutes they called us back (which is rare these days), and we got our breakers the next morning.
