Product FAQs

7 answers
What panels are compatible with the THHQL2120GFEP breaker?

This breaker is designed for use in GE A-Series panelboards, GE PowerMark Gold load centers, and ABB ReliaHome load centers that accept 1-inch wide Q-Line plug-in breakers.

What is the difference between GFEP and standard GFCI protection?

GFEP (Ground Fault Equipment Protection) trips at a 30mA threshold to protect dedicated equipment from electrical damage. Standard GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) trips at a 5mA threshold and is designed for personnel protection against electric shock.

What does the HH in THHQL mean compared to a standard THQL breaker?

The HH designates a high interrupting capacity. The THHQL2120GFEP has a 22kAIC rating, whereas a standard THQL breaker typically has a 10kAIC rating. They share the same physical dimensions and plug-in mounting style.

How is the neutral connection wired on this breaker?

The THHQL2120GFEP features a factory-attached pigtail neutral wire. This pigtail must be connected directly to the panel neutral bus bar for the ground fault equipment protection to function correctly.

What types of applications require a 30mA GFEP breaker?

GFEP breakers are typically required for dedicated equipment where a standard 5mA GFCI might experience nuisance tripping. Common applications include heat tracing, snow melting equipment, commercial refrigeration, and specialized pumps.

Can I use the THHQL2120GFEP to replace a THQL2120GFEP?

Yes, the THHQL2120GFEP is physically identical and backwards compatible with the THQL2120GFEP. It simply offers a higher interrupting capacity (22kAIC versus 10kAIC), providing an upgraded level of short-circuit protection.

How much panel space does this 2-pole breaker require?

As part of the standard Q-Line family, this breaker is 1 inch wide per pole. Because it is a 2-pole breaker, it requires two full 1-inch spaces (2 inches total) in the load center.
