Maximizing available slots in residential panelboards, this non-CTL tandem breaker supplies both a 30A and a 15A circuit from one position. It serves as an ideal maintenance solution for legacy Murray enclosures requiring exact fitment without adapter kits. The unit seamlessly replaces discontinued MP3015 and Q3015 models while utilizing a secure plug-on connection. Built with Insta-Wire terminals and thermal-magnetic trip technology, it handles standard 120/240V residential loads safely.
What is the difference between the Murray EP3015 and MH-T series tandem breakers?
The EP3015 is a non-CTL (Circuit Total Limiting) tandem breaker, meaning it does not have a rejection clip. It is designed for use in older, pre-1968 panels or specific load centers that accept non-CTL breakers. The MH-T series features a rejection clip and is CTL-compliant for modern panels designed to limit the total number of circuits.
Can I install the EP3015 in any Murray or Siemens load center?
No. Because the EP3015 is a non-CTL tandem breaker, it should only be installed in older legacy panels that are specifically listed to accept non-CTL type EP breakers. Always check the wiring diagram on your panel door to confirm compatibility before installation.
What size wire is compatible with the box lugs on the EP3015?
The box lug terminals on this breaker accept 14 to 8 AWG copper wire or 12 to 8 AWG aluminum wire.
Is there a modern Siemens equivalent for the Murray EP3015?
Yes. Siemens manufactures the QT series of non-CTL tandem breakers, such as the Q3015NC, which serves as a direct, UL-listed replacement for older Murray EP series non-CTL breakers.
What does the LI trip function code mean on this breaker?
The LI designation indicates that the breaker is equipped with Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function trips the breaker immediately in the event of a severe short circuit.
Can this tandem breaker be used to supply a 240V circuit?
No. The EP3015 provides two independent 120V single-pole circuits (one 30A and one 15A) from a single phase leg. It cannot be used to supply a 240V load because both circuits draw from the same phase.
