Product FAQs

7 answers
What panels are compatible with the BRN250EP?

This breaker is designed exclusively for Eaton and Cutler-Hammer Type BR load centers. It will not fit Type CH panels.

Can I install this breaker in an older Cutler-Hammer panel?

Yes, provided it is a Type BR load center. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer and continues to manufacture Type BR breakers that are fully compatible with legacy Cutler-Hammer BR panels.

What is the difference between GFEP and standard GFCI?

GFEP (Ground Fault Equipment Protection) breakers like the BRN250EP have a 30mA trip threshold designed to protect equipment from damage. Standard Class A GFCI breakers have a 5mA threshold intended for personnel protection.

What does the EP stand for in the BRN250EP catalog number?

The EP indicates Equipment Protection. This signifies that the breaker provides ground fault protection with a 30mA trip level, which is typically used for heat tracing, snow melting equipment, or other applications requiring a higher ground fault tolerance.

How is the neutral connected on the BRN250EP?

This breaker features a pigtail neutral. The coiled white wire must be terminated directly at the neutral bar in your load center to power the internal ground fault circuitry.

Is the BRN250EP suitable for protecting a hot tub or pool pump?

No. Hot tubs and pool equipment typically require Class A 5mA personnel protection. The BRN250EP is a 30mA GFEP breaker intended for equipment protection. Always consult the NEC and local electrical codes for specific application requirements.

Does this breaker provide both thermal-magnetic and ground fault protection?

Yes. The BRN250EP provides standard thermal-magnetic protection against overloads and short circuits, in addition to its 30mA ground fault equipment protection.
