Rated for 50 amps, the Eaton GFEP250 delivers specialized 30mA ground fault equipment protection (GFEP). This two-pole breaker is specifically calibrated to protect machinery and heating equipment from electrical damage without the nuisance tripping associated with highly sensitive 5mA personnel GFCIs. Designed for Eaton Type BR load centers, it features a simple plug-on mounting style and a pigtail neutral connection. It provides 10 kAIC interrupting capacity and is replaced by the BRN250EP.
What load centers are compatible with the GFEP250?
The GFEP250 is designed for use in Eaton and Cutler-Hammer Type BR load centers. It requires a plug-on connection and occupies two adjacent 1-inch spaces in the panel.
What is the ground fault trip level for the GFEP250?
This Ground Fault Equipment Protector (GFEP) is calibrated to trip at 30mA. It is designed to protect equipment like heat trace cables or snow melting systems from ground faults, rather than providing the 5mA personnel protection of a standard GFCI.
Can the GFEP250 be used for a hot tub or pool pump?
No. The GFEP250 is a 30mA equipment protection breaker. Hot tubs, pool pumps, and spas require a 5mA Class A GFCI breaker for personnel protection to comply with National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
Does the GFEP250 require a neutral connection?
Yes, it features a pigtail neutral. The attached coiled white wire must be connected directly to the neutral bar in your load center for the equipment protection circuitry to function correctly.
Can I install the GFEP250 in a Square D or Siemens panel?
No, the GFEP250 is exclusively UL listed for Eaton and Cutler-Hammer Type BR load centers. Installing it in panels from other manufacturers like Square D or Siemens violates its listing and compromises safety.
Is the Cutler-Hammer GFEP250 the same as the Eaton GFEP250?
Yes. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer and continues to manufacture the Type BR line. A GFEP250 breaker branded as Cutler-Hammer is functionally identical and interchangeable with one branded as Eaton.
What type of wiring is accepted by the GFEP250 terminals?
The box lugs accept 14 AWG to 4 AWG conductors and are rated for both copper and aluminum wire. When terminating aluminum conductors, always apply an approved oxide inhibitor to prevent corrosion.
