Built for residential applications, the Siemens Murray MP220240 quadplex breaker maximizes panel density. It combines two independent 20A circuits and one 40A common-trip circuit into a compact two-space footprint. This plug-on breaker mounts into legacy Murray and Siemens load centers without adapters, serving as an exact replacement. It is cross-referenced to the modern Q24020CT2 substitute. Rated at 10kAIC at 120/240VAC, this thermal-magnetic breaker is HACR rated for HVAC use.

Product FAQs
7 answers
Can I install the Murray MP220240 in a Siemens load center?
Yes. Siemens acquired Murray and issued a UL substitution letter allowing Murray breakers to be used in Siemens load centers. The MP220240 can be installed in Siemens panels that accept Type MH-T or QT quadplex breakers.
What is the modern Siemens equivalent for the MP220240 quad breaker?
The direct Siemens replacement is the Q22040CT2 quadplex circuit breaker. It provides the exact same 20A outer and 40A inner pole configuration and mounts into the same load centers.
How much panel space does the MP220240 require?
This quadplex breaker requires two standard 1-inch panel spaces. It maximizes panel density by combining two independent 20A single-pole circuits and one 40A double-pole circuit into a compact footprint.
Is the MP220240 a CTL or non-CTL breaker?
The MP220240 is a CTL (Circuit Total Limiting) breaker. It features a rejection clip and can only be installed in load center slots specifically notched to accept tandem or quadplex breakers.
Is this breaker suitable for HVAC equipment?
Yes, the MP220240 is HACR rated. It is approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, provided the equipment requires a 20A or 40A thermal-magnetic breaker.
What are the wire size requirements for the inner and outer poles?
Because of the different amperage ratings, the wire requirements vary. The outer 20A poles accept 14 to 8 AWG copper or 12 to 8 AWG aluminum wire. The inner 40A poles require heavier gauge wire, accepting 8 to 6 AWG copper or 8 to 4 AWG aluminum wire.
Does this quad breaker provide common-trip protection?
Yes, but only for the inner poles. The inner 40A poles feature an internal common trip for 240V applications. The outer 20A poles operate as independent single-pole circuits and do not share a common trip.
