A drop-in replacement for older systems, the Siemens MURRAYC270 delivers 70A of thermal-magnetic protection. It maintains existing infrastructure where original Murray components are discontinued. Designed to mount into legacy Murray and Siemens load centers, this two-pole plug-on breaker eliminates the need for panel upgrades. It is officially replaced by the Siemens Q270. Siemens acquired Murray and has since phased out the Murray brand. The official, direct replacement for the MP270 is the Siemens Q270 circuit breaker from the QP series.
Are Murray and Siemens breakers interchangeable?
Yes. Because Siemens manufactured Murray products for many years, this plug-on breaker is UL listed for use in both Murray and Siemens load centers.
What wire sizes are compatible with the terminal lugs on this breaker?
The terminal lugs on the MP270 are designed to accept wire gauges ranging from 8 AWG up to 2 AWG. Always verify your specific wire size against local electrical codes for a 70-amp circuit.
What type of protection does the LI trip function provide?
The LI code stands for Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. It uses a fixed thermal-magnetic mechanism where the thermal element responds to gradual overloads and the magnetic element reacts instantly to short circuits.
Can I install this breaker in an Eaton or Square D panel?
No. This breaker is exclusively designed for Murray and Siemens load centers. Installing it in a panel from another manufacturer violates UL listings and can cause dangerous arcing.
Does this 70-amp breaker include ground fault or arc fault protection?
No. The MP270 is a standard thermal-magnetic breaker. It does not provide GFCI or AFCI protection.
Is this breaker suitable for systems requiring high interrupting capacity?
This breaker has a standard interrupting rating of 10kAIC at 240V. It is typically used in residential or light commercial panels that do not require a higher fault current rating.

Free Shipping Policy

Expedited Shipments
