The MP220220CT2 is a thermal-magnetic quadplex breaker from the legacy Murray MP-T series, providing two separate 20A, 2-pole circuits in a space-saving unit. Built for residential use, it features common trip functionality on both inner and outer poles. This plug-on breaker installs into Murray and compatible Siemens load centers. It is replaced by the Siemens Q22020CT2 for modern panel upgrades.
What panels are compatible with the Siemens MP220220CT2 quad breaker?
This breaker is designed for use in Murray and Siemens load centers that accept type MP or MH-T plug-on breakers. Always verify compatibility by checking the wiring diagram inside your panel door to ensure quadplex breakers are permitted in the target slots.
Is the Siemens MP220220CT2 the same as the Murray MP220220CT2?
Yes. Siemens acquired Murray and transitioned the Murray MP-T and MH-T breaker lines under the Siemens brand. The Siemens MP220220CT2 is the direct, manufacturer-approved replacement for the legacy Murray version, sharing the same physical and electrical characteristics.
How many panel spaces does the MP220220CT2 quadplex breaker require?
This quadplex breaker requires two standard 1-inch panel spaces. It allows you to install two independent 2-pole 20A circuits in the space normally required for a single 2-pole breaker, making it ideal for maximizing capacity in crowded load centers.
What does the CT2 designation mean on this Siemens quad breaker?
The CT2 suffix indicates that both the inner and outer 20A circuits feature an internal common trip mechanism. This ensures that if an overload or short circuit occurs on one leg of a 240V circuit, both poles of that circuit will trip simultaneously, safely disconnecting power to the connected 240V load.
Can I use the MP220220CT2 in a Square D or Eaton panel?
No. This breaker is strictly UL-listed for use in compatible Siemens and Murray load centers. Installing it in panels from other manufacturers like Square D, Eaton, or GE violates UL listings and can create a fire hazard due to busbar design differences.
Is the MP220220CT2 a CTL or non-CTL breaker?
The MP220220CT2 is a CTL (Circuit Total Limiting) breaker. It features a physical rejection clip and can only be installed in load center slots specifically notched to accept tandem or quadplex breakers. For older pre-1968 panels requiring non-CTL breakers, a different catalog number with an N suffix is required.
