Operating within commercial and industrial environments, this 400A thermal-magnetic breaker provides essential LI protection for critical circuits. The device mounts into legacy Westinghouse CDP panelboards and modern Eaton Pow-R-Line 4 systems, serving as a reliable substitute for the KD3400. Featuring an adjustable magnetic trip and HACR certification, this K-frame component ensures precise coordination across demanding motor control applications.
Can I install the KS320400 in an older Westinghouse CDP panelboard?
Yes, the Eaton and Westinghouse KS320400 breakers are physically and electrically identical. This Series C K-frame breaker is fully backward compatible with legacy Westinghouse CDP panelboards, as well as modern Eaton Pow-R-Line 4 panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers.
What wire material and sizes do the factory lugs on the KS320400 accept?
The included lugs are dual-rated for both aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu) conductors. Depending on your wire size, the lugs accept either two 3/0 AWG to 250 kcmil wires or a single 500 to 750 kcmil wire per phase.
How does the adjustable magnetic trip function work on the KS320400?
The thermal-magnetic trip unit features a fixed thermal element for long-time (L) overload protection and an adjustable magnetic element for instantaneous (I) short-circuit protection. The adjustable magnetic dial allows electricians to fine-tune the instantaneous trip threshold to properly coordinate with other protective devices in the system.
Is the KS320400 manufactured by ABB or Eaton?
The KS320400 is an Eaton and Westinghouse Series C circuit breaker. While occasionally mislabeled as an ABB product in some distributor catalogs, the KS-frame is an Eaton design. The physical dimensions, mounting, and electrical ratings remain identical regardless of whether it carries an Eaton, Cutler-Hammer, or Westinghouse label.
Can the KS320400 be used in direct current (DC) applications?
Yes, in addition to its 42kAIC rating at 240VAC, the KS320400 is rated for use in DC systems up to 250VDC, where it provides an interrupting capacity of 10kA.
Does the KS320400 bolt directly to the panelboard bus?
Yes, the KS320400 features a bolt-on connection type. When installing it into an Eaton Pow-R-Line 4 panelboard or Westinghouse CDP panelboard, it bolts directly to the chassis bus using the appropriate K-frame mounting hardware kit.
