Part of the legacy K-Frame series, this 250-amp thermal-magnetic breaker provides reliable overcurrent protection for commercial and industrial facilities. It installs into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards, utilizing a specific phase A-C connection. Rated for 65kAIC at 480VAC, it features fixed thermal and adjustable magnetic trip settings. For modern upgrades, this unit is replaced by the JJA26250 model.

Product FAQs
6 answers
What type of panelboard is the KC24250AC designed for?
This breaker features an I-Line style plug-in connection, which is specifically designed for fast, tool-free installation onto the busbar of Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It is not compatible with standard NQ, NF, or QO load centers.
What does the "AC" suffix in the KC24250AC part number mean?
The "AC" suffix indicates that this 2-pole breaker is factory-configured for an A-C phase connection on the I-Line bus. This specific jaw configuration ensures the breaker draws power from the A and C phases when plugged into a 3-phase I-Line panelboard.
What does the "LI" trip function code mean on the KC24250AC?
The "LI" designation indicates that the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides both Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function provides immediate tripping during severe short circuits. On this model, the thermal setting is fixed, but the magnetic trip is adjustable.
What wire sizes and materials are accepted by the lugs on the KC24250AC?
The factory-installed lugs on this breaker accept both aluminum and copper (Al/Cu) conductors. The supported wire gauge range is 4 AWG to 350 kcmil. Ensure proper torque specifications are followed during installation to maintain a secure and safe connection.
What does the "KC" frame designation indicate compared to other K-frame breakers?
The "KC" designation refers to Square D's legacy K-frame series with an extra-high interrupting capacity of 65kA at 480V. Standard K-frame breakers, such as the KA series, have lower interrupting ratings. The KC frame is required for electrical systems with higher available fault currents.
Can the KC24250AC be used in DC power systems?
Yes, in addition to its AC ratings, this breaker is rated for 250VDC applications, where it provides an interrupting capacity of 10kA. This makes it suitable for specific industrial DC control circuits or battery backup systems.
