Product FAQs

Is the HNB3F800 still in active production, or is there a direct replacement?
The HNB3F800 is a legacy N-frame breaker that has been officially replaced by the Siemens HND63B800. However, the HNB3F800 remains an exact, bolt-on replacement for maintaining existing legacy Siemens and ITE switchboards without requiring modern retrofit adapters.
Which enclosures are compatible with the HNB3F800?
This breaker is designed for use in legacy Siemens and ITE switchboards and panelboards that accept N-frame molded case circuit breakers. Always verify the UL compatibility chart inside your specific enclosure before installation to ensure code compliance.
What wire sizes are accepted by the terminals on this breaker?
When equipped with the standard mechanical lugs, the HNB3F800 accepts three conductors per phase, ranging from #3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil. The terminals are rated for both copper and aluminum wiring.
How is the thermal-magnetic trip unit configured on the HNB3F800?
It features an LI (Long-Time, Instantaneous) trip function. The thermal protection for overload conditions is fixed, while the magnetic instantaneous protection for short circuits is adjustable. This allows panel builders to coordinate the trip curve with downstream loads.
Can the trip unit on the HNB3F800 be swapped out?
Yes, the HNB frame features an interchangeable trip unit design. This allows for flexible configuration and serviceability if the facility's power requirements change, without needing to replace the entire breaker frame.
Can I install this Siemens/ITE breaker in a panel from another manufacturer?
No. Unless the panel's UL label explicitly lists Siemens or ITE N-frame breakers as acceptable, installing this breaker in a different brand's enclosure violates UL listings and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, potentially creating a severe fire hazard.
