Built for commercial applications, the KC34150G is a 150-amp molded case circuit breaker. It utilizes thermal-magnetic technology to provide dependable long-time and instantaneous (LI) protection. This K-Frame breaker installs into I-Line panelboards and switchboards. If substituting with the modern JJA36150, technicians must verify ground fault system compatibility. Equipped with a factory-installed ground fault shunt trip, it offers an extra-high interrupting capacity of 65kA at 480VAC.

Product FAQs
6 answers
What panelboards are compatible with the KC34150G circuit breaker?
The KC34150G is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It features a plug-on I-Line mounting connection that engages directly with the panel bus assembly, allowing for rapid installation without bolted bus connections.
What wire sizes and materials are accepted by the lugs on the KC34150G?
The standard lugs on this breaker accept wire gauges from 4 AWG up to 350 kcmil. They are dual-rated for use with both aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu) conductors. Ensure proper torque specifications are applied during installation as indicated on the breaker faceplate.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip unit function on the KC34150G?
This breaker features a fixed thermal element for long-time overload protection and an adjustable magnetic element for instantaneous short-circuit protection. The adjustable magnetic trip allows electricians to tune the instantaneous response to accommodate specific load inrush currents, such as those from motors or transformers.
Is the Square D KC34150G part of a legacy product line?
Yes, the KC34150G belongs to the legacy Square D K-Frame series. While Schneider Electric has transitioned to the PowerPact series for newer designs, K-Frame breakers are still heavily utilized as direct drop-in replacements for existing I-Line power distribution systems.
What does the 65kAIC rating at 480V mean for the KC34150G?
The 65kAIC rating indicates the breaker's maximum interrupting capacity. It can safely clear a fault current of up to 65,000 amps at 480V AC without sustaining catastrophic damage, making it suitable for commercial and industrial facilities with high available fault currents.
Can the KC34150G be used in DC applications?
Yes, in addition to its AC ratings, the KC34150G is rated for use in DC circuits. It carries an interrupting rating of 10kA at 250V DC, providing flexibility for specific industrial control or battery system applications.
