Engineered for industrial environments, the SND6B120LSI is a 1200A, 3-pole molded case circuit breaker. It operates at up to 600VAC with a 65kAIC rating at 240V. This ND-frame unit mounts into Siemens Sentron P4 and P5 panelboards, plus SB-series switchboards. It is replaced by the 3VA series, requiring a retrofit kit. The Sensitrip IV electronic trip unit provides adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous (LSI) protection for advanced system coordination.
Which Siemens enclosures are compatible with the SND6B120LSI?
This breaker fits Siemens Sentron Type P4 and P5 panelboards, as well as SB1, SB2, and SB3 switchboards. It is not designed for load centers or smaller distribution panels.
How does the LSI trip function operate on this breaker?
The Sensitrip electronic trip unit provides adjustable Long-Time, Short-Time, and Instantaneous (LSI) settings. This allows panel builders to precisely tune the breaker's trip curve to coordinate with downstream devices and prevent nuisance tripping.
What type of connections does the SND6B120LSI require?
This unit-mount breaker utilizes a feed-thru connection design. It requires compatible lug terminals to secure the line and load conductors, which must be torqued to the specifications listed on the breaker faceplate.
What are the advantages of the SND frame over standard ND frames?
The SND frame designates the use of a Sensitrip solid-state electronic trip unit, whereas standard ND frames typically utilize thermal-magnetic trip units. This provides more accurate and adjustable overcurrent protection.
What is the modern replacement for the SND6B120LSI?
While the SND6B120LSI remains a direct replacement for existing Sentron ND-frame installations, Siemens has transitioned to the 3VA series for new applications. Upgrading an existing panel to a 3VA breaker will require a specific retrofit mounting kit.
Is the SND6B120LSI suitable for current-limiting applications?
No, the standard SND6 frame does not meet current-limiting requirements. If your system requires a current-limiting breaker in the 1200A frame size, you must source an SCND6 type breaker instead.
Are internal accessories supported on the SND6B120LSI?
Yes, the Sentron ND-frame accommodates field-installable internal accessories. Electricians can add shunt trips, undervoltage releases, and auxiliary switches without voiding the UL listing, provided they follow Siemens installation guidelines.
