Engineered for demanding commercial applications, this 80A PowerPacT H-Frame unit provides long-time and instantaneous (LI) trip functions. It installs into industrial control panels, switchboards, and enclosures, serving as a modern upgrade for legacy FAL36080 breakers. Featuring a 100% continuous current rating and 14kAIC at 600VAC, this unit-mount MCCB includes factory-installed lugs and a Visi-Trip indicator for rapid fault identification.
What does the "C" suffix indicate in the HDL36080C catalog number?
The "C" suffix designates that this PowerPact H-frame circuit breaker is 100% rated. This allows the breaker to carry its full 80A continuous current rating without the standard 80% derating requirement typically applied to standard-rated breakers.
Can the HDL36080C be used to replace legacy Square D breakers?
Yes, the PowerPact H-frame series serves as the modern upgrade for legacy 80A FAL36080 breakers. Note that because the physical dimensions differ, panel modifications or adapter kits may be required when retrofitting older enclosures.
Is the HDL36080C compatible with I-Line panelboards?
No, this specific catalog number is a unit-mount circuit breaker equipped with line and load lugs for feed-thru installation. It lacks the plug-on jaw connections required for Square D I-Line panelboards.
Can I add internal accessories to this H-frame breaker?
Yes, PowerPact H-frame breakers support field-installable internal accessories, including auxiliary switches, alarm switches, shunt trips, and undervoltage releases. These install behind the front cover of the breaker.
How does the breaker indicate a tripped condition?
This unit features a Visi-Trip indicator on the front face. When a fault occurs and the breaker trips, the indicator provides clear visual confirmation to help maintenance personnel rapidly identify the tripped circuit.
Are the thermal and magnetic trip settings adjustable on this model?
No, the HDL36080C is equipped with a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. Both the Long-Time (thermal) and Instantaneous (magnetic) trip thresholds are factory-set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
Can this breaker be reverse fed?
Yes, PowerPact H-frame thermal-magnetic circuit breakers are suitable for reverse connection. This allows power to be supplied to either the line or load terminals without affecting the trip characteristics or protection capabilities.
