The QO120PCAFI features a Plug-On Neutral (PON) design that connects directly to the neutral bar of a compatible QO load center. The QO120CAFI includes a neutral pigtail wire and is designed for standard QO panels that lack a Plug-On Neutral bar.
What is the difference between the QO120PCAFI and QO120PAF breakers?
The QO120PAF is the updated replacement model for the QO120PCAFI. Both are 20-amp, single-pole, combination arc fault breakers with a Plug-On Neutral design. They offer the exact same fit and function for QO load centers.
Which load centers are compatible with the QO120PCAFI circuit breaker?
This breaker is exclusively compatible with Square D QO Plug-On Neutral load centers. It requires the built-in panel neutral bar to function and will not fit older QO panels or Homeline enclosures.
Can I install the QO120PCAFI in a Square D Homeline panel?
No. Square D QO and Homeline circuit breakers have different physical dimensions and mounting methods. The QO120PCAFI will only fit QO Plug-On Neutral load centers.
Does the QO120PCAFI require a pigtail connection?
No. Because it is a Plug-On Neutral (PON) breaker, it connects directly to the neutral bar built into the load center. This eliminates the need for a separate pigtail wire, saving gutter space and reducing panel makeup time.
Can I use aluminum wiring with this breaker?
Yes, the pressure plate terminals are rated for both copper and aluminum conductors. The accepted wire range is 14 to 8 AWG for copper wire, and 12 to 8 AWG for aluminum wire.
Does the QO120PCAFI need a neutral connection to operate?
Yes. The internal electronics that detect arc faults require neutral power to function. In this Plug-On Neutral design, that connection is made automatically when the breaker is seated onto the panel neutral bar.
What does the combination arc fault (CAFCI) rating indicate?
A CAFCI breaker protects against both parallel arcing (line-to-neutral or line-to-ground) and series arcing (loose connections within a single conductor). This offers more comprehensive fire prevention than older branch-feeder AFCI models.
How does the trip mechanism function on the QO120PCAFI?
It utilizes fixed thermal-magnetic technology. A bimetallic strip provides a long-time delay for safely handling temporary overloads, while an internal electromagnet instantly trips the circuit in the event of a short circuit. It also uses internal electronics to detect dangerous arcing.
Does this breaker feature a tripped-state indicator?
Yes. It includes the Square D Visi-Trip indicator. When the breaker trips due to a fault, a highly visible red flag appears in the indicator window, allowing you to quickly identify the tripped circuit in a dark electrical panel.
