Engineered to fit older Zinsco panelboards, this 60A thin-series component delivers reliable thermal-magnetic protection. The space-saving wafer design allows two poles to occupy a single standard slot, maximizing capacity in crowded enclosures. While this specific part number has been superseded by the UBIZ0260, it remains a sought-after exact replacement for maintaining existing residential infrastructure without requiring panel upgrades or modifications.
What is the modern replacement for the Zinsco RC38-60 circuit breaker?
The Connecticut Electric UBIZ0260 is the direct modern replacement for the obsolete Zinsco RC38-60. It is specifically manufactured to fit legacy Zinsco load centers and provides a safer alternative to original vintage breakers.
What is the difference between Zinsco RC38 and QC series breakers?
The RC38 series features a space-saving thin design, allowing a 2-pole breaker to fit into a single standard panel slot. The QC series are full-size 2-pole breakers that require two standard spaces on the busbar.
Are there known safety issues with legacy Zinsco circuit breakers?
Yes. Original Zinsco panels and breakers have well-documented safety hazards. The breakers can fail to trip during an overload, and the connection clips can degrade, causing arcing or welding to the busbar. Inspect the panel busbar carefully before installing any replacement breaker.
How does the RC38-60 connect to the panel busbar?
The RC38-60 uses a plug-on connection with clips that slide directly onto the panel busbar. Because legacy Zinsco panels are prone to busbar corrosion and arcing damage, the busbar must be thoroughly inspected for pitting or melting before seating a new breaker.
What type of trip mechanism does the Zinsco RC38-60 use?
It utilizes a fixed thermal-magnetic trip mechanism. The thermal component provides long-time protection against gradual overloads, while the magnetic component delivers instantaneous tripping for severe short circuits.
