What is the difference between the HLD3500 and the LD3500 circuit breakers?
Both are 500A, 3-pole Series C L-Frame breakers with identical physical dimensions. The difference is the interrupting capacity. The standard LD3500 is rated at 65kA at 240VAC and 35kA at 480VAC, while the HLD3500 is a high-interrupting breaker rated at 100kA at 240VAC and 65kA at 480VAC.
Will this Eaton HLD3500 replace my older Cutler-Hammer or Westinghouse HLD3500?
Yes. Eaton acquired the Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse distribution equipment lines. The current Eaton HLD3500 is a direct, drop-in replacement for legacy Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse breakers with the exact same catalog number.
What is the standard replacement lug kit for this breaker?
The standard mechanical lug kit for the HLD3500 is the TA602LD. It accepts two 3/0 AWG to 350 kcmil aluminum or copper conductors per phase.
Is the HLD3500 breaker 80% or 100% continuous rated?
This breaker carries a standard 80% continuous current rating. It is not rated to carry 100% of its nameplate amperage on a continuous basis.
Can I add field-installable accessories like a shunt trip or auxiliary switch to this breaker?
Yes, Eaton Series C L-Frame breakers support a variety of field-installable internal accessories, including shunt trips, auxiliary contacts, and bell alarms. These install under the front accessory cover.
Does this breaker require a separate rating plug?
No. The HLD3500 features a standard thermal-magnetic trip unit with fixed thermal and fixed magnetic settings. It does not use electronic rating plugs.
Does the HLD3500 provide ground fault protection?
No. This breaker is equipped with standard LI (Long-Time and Instantaneous) thermal-magnetic trip functions. It does not include integral ground fault equipment protection.
