Restoring power to older commercial facilities is simple with the Federal Pacific NB231090. This 3-pole, 90A miniature circuit breaker delivers dependable thermal-magnetic protection for 240VAC systems. Designed to eliminate the need for retrofit kits, the bolt-on unit installs into legacy FPE NB and NBLP panelboards. It acts as an exact replacement for NB3P90 and UBIFP2390N substitute breakers. With a 10 kAIC interrupt rating, it provides fixed LI trip functions to defend branch circuits.
What panelboards are compatible with the NB231090 circuit breaker?
This breaker is designed exclusively for legacy Federal Pacific NB and NBLP series bolt-on panelboards. It will not fit in standard residential load centers.
Can I use this NB series breaker in a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panel?
No. The NB231090 is a bolt-on circuit breaker and will not fit in Stab-Lok load centers that require plug-on NA or NC series breakers.
What size wire does the NB231090 accept?
The load side lug terminals accommodate 4 AWG to 1/0 AWG aluminum or copper wire, making it suitable for standard 90-amp feeder circuits.
How does the NB231090 mount into the panel?
It features a bolt-on mounting style, securing directly to the panelboard bus with screws. This provides a secure connection often required in commercial applications.
What type of trip unit is equipped on the NB231090?
It utilizes a non-interchangeable, fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. This provides standard long-time overload protection and instantaneous short-circuit protection (LI functions).
Can the NB231090 be used on a 480V system?
No. This 3-pole breaker has a maximum voltage rating of 240V AC. It is not rated for 480V or 600V commercial systems.
Is the Federal Pacific NB231090 a Stab-Lok breaker?
No. While Federal Pacific is known for its residential Stab-Lok line, the NB series is a commercial-grade bolt-on breaker. It uses a completely different bus connection method than the plug-on Stab-Lok design.
Are Federal Pacific NB breakers still manufactured?
The original Federal Pacific Electric company is no longer in business, making the NB231090 a legacy component. Sourcing these specific breakers allows facilities to maintain existing NB and NBLP panelboards without a complete tear-out.

Hard to find breakers
Had a project at a school built in the 1960’s and thought we were up a creek when confronted with ancient FPE commercial panels. Luckily we found what we needed with Suoerbreakers.
