Built for heavy-duty commercial environments, the NM632250 delivers robust overcurrent defense for 250-amp circuits. It provides a seamless fit for legacy Federal Pacific switchgear and panelboards, eliminating the hassle of retrofitting obsolete enclosures. This 3-pole, 600VAC maximum breaker features an interchangeable thermal-magnetic trip unit. Unlike lower amperage models, it includes an adjustable magnetic trip setting to fine-tune short-circuit response for specific loads.
What enclosures are compatible with the NM632250 circuit breaker?
This breaker is designed specifically for legacy Federal Pacific switchgear and panelboards that accept N-frame or NM-frame molded case circuit breakers.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip unit operate on this model?
The NM632250 features a fixed thermal element for long-time overload protection and an adjustable magnetic element, allowing electricians to fine-tune the instantaneous short-circuit trip threshold for specific loads.
What are the wire size requirements for the terminal lugs?
The standard lugs on this breaker accommodate a single conductor per phase, accepting wire gauges from 1/0 AWG up to 600 kcmil.
How is the NM632250 secured within the panelboard?
It features a bolt-on mounting configuration, meaning the line-side connections must be physically bolted to the panelboard busbars for a secure, high-capacity electrical connection.
Is there a direct replacement for the obsolete NM632250?
Yes, the Federal Pacific HM632250 serves as a direct substitute. It shares the same physical dimensions and bolt-on mounting, allowing it to fit into legacy FPE panelboards without retrofitting.
Are Challenger NM frame breakers interchangeable with this Federal Pacific model?
Yes, Challenger and American Circuit Breaker Corporation manufactured exact cross-reference replacements for the Federal Pacific NM series, sharing the same frame dimensions and mounting hardware.
What should be inspected before installing a replacement breaker in a legacy FPE panel?
Before installing a replacement NM frame breaker, a licensed electrician should inspect the panelboard busbars for signs of pitting, thermal damage, or corrosion to ensure a safe and reliable bolt-on connection.
