Engineered for residential use, the TR1520 is a thermal-magnetic tandem breaker providing 15A and 20A circuits from a single slot. It operates at 120/240VAC with a 10kAIC rating for reliable overload protection. This plug-on unit mounts into GE and PowerMark Gold load centers, offering an easy way to expand capacity in full panels. It replaces older TR series breakers and is superseded by the THQLT1520. The non-CTL, twin design is HACR rated and SWD approved for switching lighting loads.
Which panels can accept the TR1520 tandem breaker?
It is compatible with GE and PowerMark Gold load centers. As a non-CTL breaker, it is specifically useful for expanding capacity in older, pre-CTL panels that do not feature notched busbars for rejection clips.
How does the 15/20A tandem configuration work?
The TR1520 houses two independent thermal-magnetic circuits within a single 1-inch breaker body. It provides one 15-amp circuit and one 20-amp circuit, allowing you to add two circuits to a single panel slot.
Is the TR1520 interchangeable with THQP series breakers?
No. While both save space, the TR1520 is a 1-inch tandem breaker that fits into a standard 1-inch slot. THQP breakers are 1/2-inch wide and require a specific GE busbar design to mount side-by-side.
What is the modern replacement for the GE TR1520?
The TR series is an older design that has been superseded by the THQLT series. The direct modern equivalent for the TR1520 is the THQLT1520.
Does the TR1520 have a CTL rejection clip?
No, the TR1520 is a non-CTL (Circuit Total Limiting) breaker. It lacks a rejection clip, allowing it to be installed in older pre-CTL panels that do not restrict the use of tandem breakers.
Is the TR1520 suitable for switching lighting loads?
Yes, this breaker is SWD (Switching Duty) approved, meaning it is tested and rated to safely switch fluorescent lighting circuits on and off on a regular basis without degrading the contacts.
Can this breaker be used for HVAC equipment?
Yes, the TR1520 is HACR rated, making it suitable for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires this specific overcurrent protection.
What does the LI trip function code mean on this breaker?
The LI designation indicates that the breaker includes both Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function trips immediately during a short circuit.
