Engineered for residential power distribution, the Siemens MP1515 is a space-saving tandem breaker that delivers two independent 15A circuits in a single-pole footprint. This plug-on unit is ideal for expanding capacity in full panels without requiring a costly service upgrade. It installs into compatible Murray and Siemens load centers, offering reliable thermal-magnetic protection. Featuring HACR and SWD ratings, this breaker is now officially replaced by the Siemens Q1515 for modern panels.
What is the modern replacement for the Murray MP1515?
Siemens acquired the Murray brand and phased out the MP series. The direct modern replacement for the MP1515 is the Siemens Q1515 tandem breaker, which is UL listed for use in the same panels.
Can I install the MP1515 in a Siemens load center?
Yes. Siemens manufactures this breaker, and it is UL listed for use in both Murray and Siemens load centers that are designed to accept tandem breakers. Check your panel label for Type MH-T or QT compatibility.
How many circuits does the MP1515 provide?
This is a tandem breaker, also known as a duplex or twin breaker. It provides two independent 15-amp, 120-volt circuits while occupying a single one-inch space on the panel busbar.
Can the two circuits on the MP1515 share a neutral wire?
No. Because both 15-amp circuits on this tandem breaker draw from the same phase, they cannot be used for a multi-wire branch circuit (MWBC). Sharing a neutral across these two circuits will overload the neutral wire. Each circuit must have its own dedicated neutral.
Will this tandem breaker fit in any slot in my panel?
Not always. Many load centers restrict tandem breakers to specific slots to prevent exceeding the maximum circuit capacity of the panel. Check your panel wiring diagram to identify which busbar stabs are notched to accept circuit total limiting (CTL) tandem breakers.
What wire sizes are compatible with the MP1515 lugs?
The load lugs on this breaker accept 14 AWG to 6 AWG copper or aluminum wire. A 15-amp circuit typically requires 14 AWG wire for standard lighting and receptacle loads.
Is the MP1515 suitable for switching fluorescent lighting or HVAC equipment?
Yes. This 15-amp breaker is SWD (Switching Duty) rated for switching 120-volt fluorescent lighting loads. It is also HACR rated for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
