Description

Delivering dependable thermal-magnetic (LI) protection, this 35-amp PowerPacT H-Frame molded case circuit breaker is designed for industrial control panels. The three-pole unit features a fixed trip configuration and handles up to 65kAIC at 480VAC. It mounts via standard lugs into NQ or NF panelboards acting as a main, or within standalone enclosures. This model requires a retrofit kit when replacing discontinued FAL36035 F-Frame breakers, offering upgraded current-limiting capabilities.

Product FAQs

8 answers
Which panelboards are compatible with the HJL36035 circuit breaker?

This unit mount breaker is designed for use in Square D industrial control panels, switchboards, and standalone enclosures. It can also serve as a main breaker in NQ and NF series panelboards when paired with the appropriate main breaker kit.

How is the HJL36035 installed in an electrical system?

It features a unit mount, feed-thru design. This means it mounts directly to a backpan or mounting plate using screws, rather than plugging onto a busbar. It includes factory installed lugs on both the line and load sides for direct wire connections.

What does the J in the HJL36035 catalog number indicate?

The J designates the interrupting rating tier within the Square D PowerPacT H-frame family. It indicates a high interrupting capacity of 65 kA at 480 VAC, making it suitable for commercial and industrial systems with substantial available fault current.

Are the trip settings adjustable on the HJL36035?

No, this thermal magnetic breaker features fixed long-time and instantaneous trip settings. If your application requires adjustable trip curves to coordinate with other devices, you will need a PowerPacT breaker equipped with a Micrologic electronic trip unit instead.

Is the HJL36035 rated for direct current applications?

Yes, this breaker is rated for use in DC systems up to 250 VDC with an interrupting capacity of 20 kA. When installing in DC circuits, ensure your wiring configuration aligns with Square D guidelines for multi-pole DC switching.

What wire sizes and materials are compatible with the factory lugs on the HJL36035?

The standard mechanical lugs accept both aluminum and copper conductors ranging from 14 AWG to 3/0 AWG. Always torque the lug screws to the specifications printed directly on the breaker faceplate to ensure a secure and compliant connection.

Can I substitute an HDL36035 or HGL36035 for the HJL36035?

The HDL and HGL models share the same physical dimensions and 35 amp rating, but they have lower interrupting capacities. The HJL provides 65 kA at 480 VAC, whereas the HGL offers 35 kA and the HDL offers 18 kA. You can only substitute if your system available fault current is below the rating of the replacement breaker.

Does the HJL36035 include equipment ground fault protection?

No, this model only provides standard long-time overload and instantaneous short circuit protection. It does not include ground fault capabilities. For ground fault protection, you must select a breaker with a Micrologic trip unit that includes the G function.
