Delivering 700 amps of continuous current, this PowerPacT M-Frame circuit breaker is built for heavy-duty commercial and industrial applications. Designed for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards, this breaker features a plug-on line connection and load-side lugs. It is an ideal replacement for discontinued MA and MH frame models. Equipped with an ET 1.0 electronic trip unit, it offers long-time and instantaneous (LI) protection with a 65 kAIC rating at 480VAC.
What type of panelboards accept the MJA36700 breaker?
This breaker is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It utilizes a plug-on design for the line side and cannot be installed in standard NQ, NF, or QO load centers.
What does the J in the MJA36700 catalog number indicate?
The J designates the interrupting capacity level within the PowerPacT M-Frame family. It indicates a high interrupting rating of 65 kA at 480VAC and 100 kA at 240VAC.
How are the line and load connections configured on this breaker?
The MJA36700 features an I-Line plug-on connection for the line side, which mounts directly to the panelboard bus. The load side is equipped with mechanical lugs that accept three 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil aluminum or copper conductors per phase.
What protection functions are included in the LI electronic trip unit?
The LI designation means the electronic trip unit provides Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. Long-time protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function protects against severe short circuits.
Can the MJA36700 replace older Square D legacy breakers?
Yes, PowerPacT M-Frame breakers like the MJA36700 are direct replacements for legacy Square D ME, MX, and MG frame I-Line circuit breakers. They fit into the same I-Line bus space.
Does this breaker require a specific mounting space in the I-Line panel?
Yes, the PowerPacT M-Frame requires 4.5 inches of vertical mounting space on the I-Line bus. Ensure your panelboard has sufficient blank space and the correct bus ampacity to accommodate a 700A breaker.
Are there specific torque requirements for the load side lugs?
Yes, proper torque is critical for safety and performance. Always refer to the label on the breaker or the manufacturer instructions for the exact torque specifications based on the installed lug kit and wire size.
Can this breaker be used in a reverse-fed application?
No. I-Line breakers feature a specific plug-on line side and lugged load side, meaning they are not suitable for reverse-feed applications.
