Belonging to the PowerPacT Q-Frame family, the QDL32250 provides robust thermal-magnetic protection for commercial systems. This 250A MCCB features fixed long-time and instantaneous trip functions. Designed for unit mounting, it installs into Square D enclosures and switchboards. It also serves as an exact replacement for discontinued Q4L3250 legacy breakers. Rated at 25kAic at 240V, the unit includes factory-installed lugs accepting 4 AWG to 300 kcmil copper wiring.
No. The 250-amp rating on PowerPacT Q-frame breakers requires copper (Cu) conductors exclusively. The factory-installed box lugs accept 4 AWG to 300 kcmil copper wire. Do not use aluminum wiring for this specific amperage.
What is the difference between the QDL32250 and the QDA32250?
The QDL32250 is a unit-mount circuit breaker equipped with mechanical lugs on both the line and load sides. The QDA32250 is the I-Line group-mounted equivalent, featuring a plug-on jaw connection on the line side. You cannot use a unit-mount QDL breaker in an I-Line panelboard.
Does this breaker come with line and load lugs factory-installed?
Yes, this feed-thru breaker is supplied with box-type mechanical lugs pre-installed on both the line and load sides, making it ready for standard cabled connections right out of the box.
Is the QDL32250 rated for use in 480V systems?
No. The QDL32250 is engineered for a maximum operational voltage of 240V AC. It provides a 25kA interrupting capacity at 240V and cannot be safely applied in 480V electrical systems.
Are the thermal and magnetic trip points field-adjustable?
No. It utilizes a standard thermal-magnetic trip unit with fixed Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. The overload and short-circuit trip settings are set at the factory and cannot be adjusted in the field.
Which individual enclosures are compatible with this breaker?
It can be installed in Square D circuit breaker enclosures specifically designed for Q-frame unit-mount configurations. Ensure the enclosure matches the 3-pole, 250-amp footprint and is rated for the available fault current of your system.
Does the QDL32250 feature a manual testing mechanism?
Yes, it includes a push-to-trip button on the faceplate. This allows electricians to mechanically trip the breaker to verify that the operating mechanism is functioning correctly before returning it to service.
What accessory is needed to padlock this breaker in the OFF position?
To padlock the QDL32250 in the OFF position for lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety, you must use a Square D Q-frame handle padlock attachment, such as the QBPAF or QBPAL kit. These attach directly to the breaker escutcheon.
