Operating within the proven PowerPacT family, this 80A thermal-magnetic breaker delivers essential LI protection for commercial systems. Built with a unit-mount form factor, the device integrates into Square D switchboards and OEM panels. Facility managers can utilize this model for existing infrastructure, though the HJL36080 serves as the modern substitute for future planning.
What is the difference between the GJL36080 and the GGL36080?
The difference is the interrupting rating. The GJL36080 has a higher interrupting capacity of 65kA at 480V, whereas the GGL36080 is rated for 35kA at 480V. Both share the same 80A continuous current rating and physical G-frame dimensions.
Can the GJL36080 circuit breaker be reverse fed?
Yes, standard thermal-magnetic PowerPacT G-frame breakers like the GJL36080 can be reverse fed. They are not marked with Line and Load restrictions, making them suitable for backfeeding applications.
What is the magnetic trip range for the GJL36080?
The GJL36080 features an adjustable magnetic trip unit with a low setting of 800A and a high setting of 1400A. The thermal protection is fixed at 80A.
How does the GJL36080 mount inside a panel?
As a unit-mount (feed-thru) breaker, the GJL36080 bolts directly to a backpan or mounting surface and uses cable-in/cable-out lug connections. It is not compatible with I-Line plug-on panelboards.
What is the difference between the GJL36080 and the HJL36080?
Both are 80A, 3-pole, 65kAIC at 480V breakers, but they belong to different frame sizes. The GJL36080 is a PowerPacT G-frame, which has a smaller physical footprint and is often used in OEM equipment. The HJL36080 is a PowerPacT H-frame, which is the standard replacement for legacy F-frame breakers in Square D panels.
What does the LI trip function on the GJL36080 indicate?
The LI designation means the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides Long-Time (L) protection for continuous overloads and Instantaneous (I) protection for short circuits.
Can I add a shunt trip or auxiliary switch to the GJL36080?
Yes, PowerPacT G-frame breakers support field-installable internal accessories, including shunt trips, undervoltage releases, and auxiliary switches. These are typically installed under the front accessory cover.
